Located in Southern Cataluña is the picturesque Ebro Valley.  Famous for its magnificent River, picturesque landscapes, majestic mountain scenery all of which is combined with its perfect Spanish climate.  This area is now attracting more and more people in purchasing a property. This Baix Ebre region is very different from the Costa's to the North and South which normally have usually dryer landscapes and are full of foreigners holidaying from many European countries. 

For people who want to live the true Spanish lifestyle, join their cultural festivities, taste their gastronomy and learn the language, this is definitely your place in the sun.  The main town of this area is Tortosa.  The city is situated on the River Ebro and is the capital of the Southern area of Cataluña.  This city provides interesting historical sites, popular festivals and fairs and good accommodation.  In Tortosa's historical Castle of "La Zuda", good retaurants and designer label shopping can be found. 

The river is one of Spain's most celebrated waterways. 
It enters southern Cataluña from Aragon and is a fisherman's paradise with Red Mullet, Perch, Carp and the famous Catfish in abundance.  Many fishermen come here to try their hand at landing some of the 100lb plus or so Catfish.  Following the river inland we come to Xerta.  Here is the famous Dam l'Assut, a piece of hydraulic engineering first started in the Islamic period, collecting water for the two irrigation channels which provide water for the much sought after Oranges and Olive Oil grown in the area. From Tortosa it is only 20 minutes across the Ebro Valley Delta to the sea where the superb sandy beach stretches for 80km.  Here the Ebro River is at its widest and the marshy Delta provides a haven for wildlife.  It is also an important rice-growing region.  On the Delta Coast are several towns with yacht clubs and water sports and some excellent fish restaurants, but it is a far cry from the crowded and popular 'Costa's'.
